The programme finances projects on a phase-by-phase basis: at the start of each phase, the resources requested are allocated to the project. These resources are discussed by the project leader and PIQ Management when the roadmap is produced during the application process.

The operating resources, equipment or teaching leave requested at the start of the phase must not exceed the duration of the phase. However, resources requested for recruitment may cover a longer period of employment than the phase itself. For example, it is possible to request funding for a postdoctoral researcher for two years at the start of a one-year phase.
